At Breakthrough Episcopal Social Services, we create spaces for healing and restoration for individuals with serious mental illness (SMI), who are at risk of homelessness, incarceration, and isolation. With life expectancies 15–20 years shorter than others, this is more than a statistic—it’s a call to act.

April’s Journey
April knows what it’s like to feel disconnected and lost. Before joining the Clubhouse program, she was isolated and depressed, unsure of what her future held. Slowly, she began participating, first by helping in the kitchen and eventually taking on leadership roles within the program.
With the encouragement and support of the Clubhouse community, April’s life transformed. She lost 200 pounds, regained her independence, and completed her associate’s degree with help from Clubhouse grants. Today, she is thriving—not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually. She has close friendships, attends national conferences, and experiences the joy that comes from being part of a loving, supportive community.

Avery’s Journey
Avery exemplifies the resilience and determination that thrive at Resilience Clubhouse. Facing the challenges of aging out of the foster care system, she joined the Clubhouse with a clear goal of transforming her life. Since then, Avery has embraced every moment to learn and contribute, actively participating in all aspects of the work-ordered day and becoming an essential part of the community.
Her drive extends beyond the Clubhouse. Avery took a leading role during Mental Health Advocacy Day at the State Capitol, where she engaged with legislators and courageously shared her story to push for mental health reforms. Her advocacy and dedication resonate powerfully, inspiring others to take action and believe in what’s possible.
Today, Avery leads with purpose and continues to grow in her recovery. Her commitment uplifts Resilience Clubhouse, creating a ripple effect of encouragement and hope.
