Nathan is a family man. He met his wife, Melissa, through friends and says for him it was love at first sight. She works in Special Education at Word of Life Preparatory Academy in Wichita, KS. He's a father of four - two boys and two girls, ranging in age from 5-18. Activities from bowling to movies keep this tight-knit group together.
Nathan has been in the auto industry for 13 years, and says his happiest have been the past three with Don Hattan where he is General Sales Manager. Would he recommend it for someone starting a career path? He could do that - it's a customer-oriented business and it's exciting.
Any experience with dance? Nathan says he's great at slow-dancing with Melissa, but has had no ballroom experience. Melissa is supporting him and looking forward to watching his debut! His big reason for being a dancer is, "it's for a great cause. I like the cause more than anything else. That's why I'm here."
That's perfect. That's why we're here, too!
Gina is a member of the West High Pioneers class of 1986, married with two sons ages 27 and 20. She started dance lessons at age 5, and took tap and jazz through high school. She says the real lessons started after graduation. Gina started her Ballroom and Latin Dance training at Fred Astaire Studio shortly after graduation, and spent six years competing in American Rhythm and American Smooth Dance Styles. She says she trained with some incredible teachers and coaches. When did she know she would become a teacher? She says she always loved sharing dance with others, and teaching something you love is one of the easiest things in the world. The self confidence students develop even after just a few lessons is such a reward, plus the friendships and being around such positive people. Among the styles she loves teaching; Salsa, Cha Cha, Swing, working with her Ballroom Glitz all Ladies dance group, and teaching dance fitness classes! Dance, she says, seems to create an environment where people thrive. Among the things SHE loves about dance, it relieves stress, its exercise in disguise and it brings people together whose paths may never cross in day to day life.
She is a flautist! A little rusty she says.. but decent. We’re sure. She adds the core cause of Breakthrough, improving the lives of those living with mental illness, strikes a chord with her. She is giving of her time and talent because of that, thank you, Gina. Her parting shot to me was.. “The only way you fail, is if you quit”, which applies to her world and ours.
