Earth Hour Changes the World With a Flip of the Switch

Turn out the lights, it’s time to change the world. The Las Vegas Strip went dark. So did the Eifel Tower, Rome’s Coliseum and the Golden Gate Bridge. In all, over 128 countries participated in Earth Hour in 2010.

The year’s Earth Hour is on March 26 at 8:30pm local time. Organizers encourage you to turn off your lights for an hour to raise awareness for climate change. The year’s goal is to Go Beyond the Hour. While turning off your lights for an hour does save energy, it’s really the awareness that the action brings. Earth Hour would like you to consider other daily actions that could benefit the planet and then share your stories, thoughts or get inspiration at http://www.earthhour.org.

Earth Hour started in Sydney, Australia in 2007 when 2.2 million people and over two thousand businesses turned off their lights to raise awareness about climate change. Now, as the event continues to gain popularity, when the lights go back on this year, think about ways you can make a difference by making changes in your daily life. Don’t forget to share your ideas online to make an even bigger impact.
